Coronavirus: Edo Records 104 New Cases As Governorship Campaign Gears Up
Edo State topped the COVID-19 daily chart on Sunday with 104 new cases.
This is even as the governorship election campaign moves to full swing.
According to the official report of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Nigeria recorded a total of 556 cases with Lagos and Federal Capital Territory recording 97 and 70 cases, respectively.
Despite the recent surge in cases, political actors continue to hold mass gathering in the state. On Saturday, a former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole addressed a large gathering at Auchi.
“I wanted to come in at night, so that I can quietly go home and then tomorrow (Monday) we can meet.
“But I am very pleasantly surprised that these thousands of people would wait till this night. I wanted to come home quietly, but the very vigilant, ever rugged and respected and resourceful people have waited behind,” he said.
According to the NCDC, Edo State currently has 1989 cases and ranks number 4 on the COVID-19 log.
