The event commenced with the recitation of the first stanza of the National Anthem.
This was followed immediately by the welcome speech from the Vice President, ILUMSA, Miss Shittu Rukayat. She welcomed everyone present to the ILUMSA’s 40th anniversary Press Conference. This she did as she acknowledged the presence of the Provost COHS, Unilorin; being the first alumnus Provost, members of the press and the great ILUMSites present.
She went further to intimate the audience with certain views about ILUMSA; this she said thus “The Ilorin University Medical students association founded in 1978, is responsible for the welfarism of all students of medicine here in the university of Ilorin and today we’re here to celebrate 40 years of immensely impactful existence. This is conspicuously exhibited in the great number of luminaries this association has birthed both locally and in the diaspora.
The Ilorin University Medical students association 40th anniversary celebration is a week-long event with the theme: “THE PROSPECTS OF MEDICINE IN NIGERIA”. The event was kick-started yesterday being the 16th Of December, 2018, with the thanksgiving service held at the chapel of Christ the healer.
Today, we’re here for the press conference where we intend to expose the grand achievements the association has recorded and her present challenge”.
She further enlighten the populace of further events to take place during the week: “Tomorrow, Tuesday, the 18th of December, we’ll be having the 9th Prof Ojuawo intercollegiate quiz competition and for the first time, cash prizes are involved.
Wednesday’s event is the Inspire ILUMSA 3.0. Speakers of note and great repute will be discussing several topics with us and it promises to be grand! The college authorities have been quite supportive as we’ll be having a lecture free period from 10am to 2pm on this day. You don’t wanna miss this, prepare to be challenged.
Later in the evening, we’ll be having a novelty match; the ilumsa Team vs the alumni team. This will be quite a game.
On Thursday There’ll be a cooking competition, which is sponsored by the MWAN. This will be a test of culinary expertise. Medical students are not just bookworms you know. We’re good at other things too. Later that evening we’ll be having the “CULTURAL AND AWARDS NIGHT” to celebrate our rich cultural heritage. The awards ceremony will also be done here.
Finally on Friday the 21st of December 2018, we’ll be having a juma’at service at the hospital jumat mosque”.
Furthermore, she sadly announce that the dinner and awards night previously scheduled for Friday has been cancelled. This is due to some logistics that I may not have time to exhaustively discuss, one of which is the desire of the central planning committee to have an all-inclusive celebration where every ilumsite can attend cost-free.
The Vice President ended her speech with the appreciation of the members of the central planning committee and her sub committees, and the central executive council of the association for their hard work and sacrifices made in the course of planning this event.
The President also gave his speech which is centered around the state of the association and which press members were present to ask questions concerning his word during his speech.
