Nigerian Celebrities Observes Black Out Tuesday To Fight Against Rape and Racism
Following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the world continues to flock to social media as a method of expressing support.
People across the globe are doing what they can to raise awareness of Raping, racial inequality and support the #BlackLivesMatter campaign via Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and more.
The latest trend is to post a Black Square onto Instagram, with a host of celebrities, YouTubers and ordinary people taking part.
But what does it actually mean?
WHAT DOES THE BLACK SQUARE MEAN ON INSTAGRAM?
In support of the #BlackLivesMatter #JusticeforUwa #Justicefortina protests following the death of George Floyd, people have been posting a plain Black Square onto their Instagram feed.
The square represents their support of the Blackout Tuesday campaign that is happening around the world on Tuesday, 2nd June.
Several musicians and reord labels such as Ludacris, Cardi B, Davido, Wizkid, Don Jazzy, Sony Music, Atlantic Records, Capitol Music Group, Warner Records, Columbia Records and Def Jam are among other labels are participating in the movement.

WHAT IS BLACKOUT TUESDAY?
Blackout Tuesday is a campaign making its way round social media where people are choosing to refrain from posting onto their social media accounts for the whole day in order to show solidarity to the #BlackLivesMatter protests.
Initially, Blackout Tuesday started with the music industry, but it has now expanded into a viral trend that everyone is taking part in.
The hashtags #BlackoutTuesday and #TheShowMustBePaused are being shared in relation to the Blackout Tuesday trend.
WHY ARE PEOPLE TAKING A BREAK FROM SOCIAL MEDIA?
Many have argued that taking a break from social media isn’t going to help the situation, as this is the time where we should be protesting loudly.
However, the day is actually supposed to be a time to further educate yourself about what is happening in the world right now, reflect and donate, before continuing the online campaigning tomorrow.
Sony Music described it as:
“A day of action committed to meaningful change in our communities both now and in the future.”
