‘No Need To Gang Up Against Me’- Benue State Governor, Ortom Tells Aspirants

The Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Media and ICT, Mr. Tahav Agerzua, has stated that there was no need for governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to gang up against the Governor or any other governorship aspirant.

Speaking with newsmen in Makurdi, the Adviser appealed to them to reckon with the fact that power belongs to God through the people hence there was no need for unnecessary acrimony.

He stated that God had helped Governor Ortom to be in a special position to contribute to the growth of both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, pointing out that his efforts should be appreciated.

The Adviser said the Governor recognized the PDP governorship aspirants and all members of the party as major stakeholders and worthy citizens of Benue State who must be duly consulted and appreciated.

According to the Special Adviser, in politics which is usually a game of numbers, it is said that the more the merrier.

He noted that the sale of nomination forms by the party had neither commenced nor closed and that as such there was still room for many more aspirants to emerge and indicate interest to run on the PDP platform in the state.

The Adviser noted that the first person to price an item in the market was not necessarily the one to buy it and that others interested in the same item should not be antagonized.

He contended that Governor Ortom has discharged his first tenure mandate creditably and has the constitutional right to seek re-election like all his elected predecessors did and were reelected.

The Adviser insisted that Governor Ortom defected from the APC into the PDP to express his constitutional right of freedom of association and his conviction that his interest and that of Benue people would be better protected in the PDP which has been rebranded for better results.

Mr. Agerzua stated that Governor Ortom is a man who believes in the rule of law and due process, and who is not afraid of contesting according to the rules of the game.

He noted that he abhors impunity, which explains his exit from the ranks of those who believe in it.
