Our members are being recruited by private universities - ASUU

Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof Biodun Ogunyemi has revealed that amid the ongoing strike in which the union and Federal Government is still at loggerheads, some of its members are been recruited by private universities.

Prof Ogunyemi made this known on Thursday, November 19, attributing the move by the lecturers to the inability of the Federal Government to meet the union demands.

He said, “We talk about brain-drain now, I can tell you authoritatively that within the last two months, 25 scholars in the North-East have been harvested by this university in Yola. We know the owner. That is how it is happening, the private universities are poaching the public universities now because they can only thrive when the public universities crumble.

The ASUU Chairman further said that any attempt by the Federal Government to elongate the process of the integrity test being conducted on the proposed University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) software will be resisted by the union.

He maintained that the integrity test being conducted on UTAS would take a week if the government “is conscientious about the process”.
