“Why I Joined Arsenal”- Lichtsteiner Reveals

Arsenal’s new signing, Stephan Lichtsteiner has revealed why he joined the Gunners.

DAILY POST reports that Lichtsteiner signed a short-term deal with the Emirates club on Tuesday after his contract expired with Juventus.

The Switzerland international said he chose to join the North London club because he was interested in the ‘big project’ sold to him by manager, Unai Emery.

The 34-year-old was brought in to provide cover and competition for Hector Bellerin at right-back and will add some much-needed experience to the squad Emery inherited from Arsene Wenger.

He had a number of offers on the table from the far-east and MLS, but the right-back said he couldn’t turn down Arsenal.

“There is a project to come back in the Champions League,” Lichtsteiner told official website.

“I think it’s hard to see a club like Arsenal not playing in the CL if you see the players, club and stadium.

“The big objective is to come back on the highest level.”

Lichtsteiner added, “I’m a right-back who likes to attack but also know when you need to stay behind.

“I have to find a balance between defending and attacking.”
