Aishat Buhari Opens Up Why I Spoke Against My Husband

Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s first lady  and wife  of President Muhammadu Buhari has finally given the reason why she criticized her husband in a 2016 interview on BBC Hausa.


She disclosed that she was crucial of her husband’s administration due to her sturdy sense of Justice. In a press release despatched to the 2017 Vanguard awards the place she was honoured with the Vanguard personality of the year award, Mrs Buhari, who was represented on the occasion by one of her daughters, Halima, said that was introduced as much as stand by the reality and that was how she has been residing her life.

“I want to thank the administration of Vanguard Media Limited for this unexpected award, in recognition of my humanitarian efforts towards improving the health and welfare of Nigerians particularly women, children and less privileged.

One of the reasons adduced for honouring me was the interview I granted which some people saw as criticism to a government that I’m a part of.

I have to state that my position was a result of my sense of justice and never confrontation or disrespect. I was brought up to stand by the truth and that is how I’ve at all times been.

As we’re all aware, Nigerians elected this administration primarily based on the belief and confidence they’ve on my husband; I, subsequently, really feel that we’re right here to serve Nigeria to the most effective of our potential.

Let me use this opportunity to state that I support my husband in this call to service and can proceed to do so. On this note, I hereby dedicate this award to the folks of Nigeria, especially women. Thanks sincerely for this award.”

Mrs Buhari had within the 2016 interview with BBC warned her husband that she might not back him at the 2019 election until he shakes up his government.

She has claimed that the President didn’t know many of the high officers he appointed.

She had stated, “The President doesn’t know 45 out of 50, for instance, of the folks he appointed and I don’t know them both, regardless of being his spouse of 27 years.

Some people are sitting down in their properties folding their arms just for them to be known as to come back and head an company or a ministerial place.”

In the BBC interview, the Mrs Buhari refused to call those that had hijacked the government, saying, “You’ll know them if you watch tv.”
