5 Women Arrested In Ogun State For Hawking Naira Notes

The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested 5 individuals in numerous components of the state for allegedly hawking naira notes.


The police recognized the suspects as Toyin Alegbe, Kehinde Akinbode, Shoneye Latifat, Kehinde Olanrewaju and Iyanuoluwa Shokunbi.

A police report indicated that the ladies had been arrested within the Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, and Abeokuta areas of Ogun State throughout sting operations collectively carried out by operatives of the command and officers of the Central Financial institution of Nigeria on Thursday, April 12, and Friday, April 13, 2018.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated the operations had been consistent with the provisions of Part 21(1) of the CBN Act 2007, which made hawking, promoting and abuse of the naira a punishable offence.

He stated, “Numerous denominations of naira notes totalling N1,560,000 had been recovered from the suspects who had been publicly exhibiting their illicit commerce.”

In the meantime, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in control of the State Legal Investigation and Intelligence Division, Aminu Alhassan, to start a full scale investigation into the actions of the forex hawkers.

The suspects, he stated, could be charged to courtroom on the finish of investigation.
